Collector Sues Baseball Player Fausto Carmona.   A Ohio collector is seeking to recoup the loss on his investment of Carmona's rookie cards, which have taken a hit with new found developments. He has 323 rookie cards of Carmona, mostly autographed cards with a lot of high-end and high grade examples. The collector estimated he has more than $5,000 invested in the pitcher’s cards and is seeking the maximum allowed by Ohio’s small claims court – $3,000.

Topps Calls Out Dealers on Twitter For Selling Giveaway Redemption Cards.   In about a week, collectors will be able to redeem cards pulled from 2012 Topps Football for exclusive packs that were given to hobby shops for the Topps Kickoff Hobby Store Promotion. The promotion starts Sept. 5, but some dealers have seemingly began to put cards up for sale on eBay now.

Babe Ruth's Stolen Will Recovered by NY Attorney General. Jackie Robinson's is Still Missing.   The theft of the will dates back to the 1990s as part of a string of heists of rare Baseball Hall of Famer signatures found on a myriad of wills and legal documents. An investigation of those thefts led to the conviction of a Boston Court officer named Joe Schnabel who admitted to investigators lifting and peddling the wills of baseball legends including “Old Hoss” Radbourn, George Wright, Hugh Duffy, Tommy Connolly, Tom Yawkey, Ned Hanlon and the now recovered will of Babe Ruth. Schnabel pleaded guilty to only two counts of larceny and was sentenced to one year of probation with a fine of $5,000.

Faced with his pick from a Safeco Field store full of current Seattle Mariners memorabilia, the unidentified thief in the video above opted to grab 16 discounted Ichiro jerseys before making a clean getaway on Wednesday morning.

Black & White Surprise in 2012-13 O-Pee-Chee.   The insert set is called O-Pee-Chee Black & White. As the name suggests all the picture are black and white, in addition to a deckled edge with a facsimile autograph on the front of the card. There are no real autographs version of these cards, according to Upper Deck. The cards are tough to grab, and prices on eBay are certainly indicating the scarcity.

Businesses scramble for share of 'Pawn Stars' fame.   Jeremy Brown, owner of Ultimate Sports Cards & Memorabilia at the corner of Cheyenne Avenue and Tenaya Way, signed on as the show's resident sports memorabilia expert last year. The exposure from "Pawn Stars" has dramatically boosted business, but Brown came to realize his northwest valley location was too far from tourist hubs such as the Strip and downtown Las Vegas to really take advantage of his newfound fame.

Willie Mays ’61 uniform sells for $31,000 on ‘Pawn Stars’ (Video).   In a recent episode, a man named "John" brought along what he said was an authentic Willie Mays game-used uniform from 1961, the prime of his Hall of Fame career with the San Francisco Giants. Not just a top, either, but a uniform — jersey and pants — and it was a beaut.

Photo Gallery: 2012 NBA Rookie Photo Shoot.   This year’s group of rookies descended on the New York Knicks Training Facility in Elmsford, N.Y., where Panini America set up several photo stations to get thousands of pictures of the 61 rookies in attendance. Players such as top draft picks Anthony Davis, Michael Kidd-Gilchrist and Bradley Beal were there, showing off their basketball moves and signing autographs for several fans.

Memory Lane Sale Hits $1.88 Million, Ruth Sporting News Rookie Tops $59,000.   The Ruth card, No. 151 in the popular set of cards issued while he was still a pitcher with the Red Sox, was graded PSA 4 sold for $59,500, inclusive of the 19 percent buyer’s premium. The blank-backed card was given away as a premium by the popular sports weekly and has grown in interest significantly over the last year.

eBay Drops Listing Fees for Sports Collectibles.   eBay is making it free to list sports collectibles on its Marketplaces in both auction and fixed-price format through the end of the year - with some limitations. The move came as a surprise to eBay sellers, and some were skeptical about the reasons for the free listings.

Company selling digital autographs sued, accused of swiping idea.   Egraphs declined to release sales figures or on how many autographs have been sold overall, but the company now has deals with 32 ballplayers on 13 teams, and plans to have at least one player from every MLB team by the end of next month.

Mickey Mantle’s 1964 World Series Jersey Sells for $675,000.   Legendary Auctions announces the recently completed private sale of Mickey Mantle’s 18th World Series home run jersey for $675,000 – the highest price ever paid for a Mantle gamer. The Mick donned this very road jersey for his historic, record-setting, final October homer, belted off St. Louis Cardinals fireballer Bob Gibson in Game 7 of the 1964 Fall Classic.

2014 Baseball Hall of Fame coins approved.   President Obama signed legislation authorizing the U.S. Mint to strike Proof and Uncirculated versions of three coins. The gold $5 half eagle and silver dollar are to be struck using a technique that would produce coins resembling a baseball with a concave obverse and a convex reverse.

Cal Ripken auctioning off the truck he drove to the ballpark when he broke Gehrig's streak.   The winning bidder will receive first-class airfare and lodging for two in Baltimore, and will be invited to attend the Sports Legends Museum Gala honoring Ripken on Sept. 5 as well as Ripken’s statue unveiling at Camden Yards the next day. They will meet Ripken and receive the keys to the truck from him.

Jerry West Still Thriving – in West Virginia.   Jerry West’s retired jersey hangs from the rafters at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, and his plaque is displayed at the Basketball Hall of Fame. However, the real treasures from West’s fabulous career are found in his native West Virginia, at The Greenbrier, a five-star resort where his restaurant – Prime West 44 – is a veritable showcase of prized memorabilia. The National: A Post-Show Mega-Gallery.   A week has gone by since the close of this year’s National Sports Collectors Convention and there’s plenty that could be said, that could be written, about what could be found under one roof during the hobby’s showcase event. From “extra” DNA Relics found in the bottom of one collector’s Allen & Ginter box (a Texas lizard in the wrong place at the wrong time at the printing plant) to countless vintage gems, from vintage wax to priceless auction items, from kids sorting soccer cards with their grandmas to kids walking the show floor in movie-used Jack Parkman jerseys, there was plenty to see.

Lord Stanley Cut Autograph Coming to ITG's Superlative Hockey 3.   The cut autograph is just one of the highlights in Superlative Hockey 3, which has been two years in the making. The last time ITG released a Superlative brand was in 2010. Much like its previous releases, ITG has limited the product. This time to just 1,500 books.

Heritage Platinum Auction Nets $4.5 Million.   The first offerings from an historic trove of 1910 E98 baseball cards – the best near “Set of 30” ever found (realized: $286,800), the finest known E98 Honus Wagner card of its kind (realized: $239,000) and the color variations set (realized: $40,332) – brought $566,132 combined on Aug. 2 as part of Heritage Auctions Platinum Night Sports auction at Camden Yards. All prices include buyer’s premium. All told, the auction netted more than $4.5 million.

Bat marked 'Momen Clemente' catches $41,825.   A Roberto Clemente bat from the seventh game of the 1960 World Series -- was among the memorabilia auctioned Thursday night at the National Sports Collectors Convention at Baltimore's Orioles Park at Camden Yards. It sold for $41,825.

PSA & CU Targeted By Feds; Fraud on T206 Wagner Just Tip of Iceberg.   The Federal indictments leveled against Bill Mastro and former Mastro employees last week revealed that Mastro has supposedly admitted to trimming the infamous Gretzky-McNall Wagner, which was graded by PSA as a “Near Mint 8,” the highest graded Wagner known. The controversial card is currently the property of Arizona Diamondbacks owner Ken Kendrick, who paid $2.8 million for it in 2008.

National Baseball Hall of Fame Commemorative Coin Act is Law.   President Obama signed into law (Public Law No: 112-152) the National Baseball Hall of Fame Commemorative Coin Act, which requires the Treasury Secretary to produce and sell commemorative gold, silver, and clad coins in 2014. Up to 50,000 $5 gold coins, 400,000 $1 silver coins and 750,000 half-dollar clad coins will be minted, in proof and uncirculated qualities, based on collector demand.

Upper Deck Announces “Shoeless” Joe Jackson Game-Used Bat Cards can be found in 2012 Goodwin Champions.   Upper Deck was able to procure an authentic game-used bat from Shoeless Joe Jackson that he used during his barnstorming days in the mid 1920’s. A portion of this historic piece of lumber was used to create a limited run of two separate cards (a single swatch and a very rare multi-swatch variation) within 2012 Goodwin Champions. These truly historic artifacts will be inserted randomly into packs for collectors to find when the product releases on August 14.

Red Sox turn their backs on history.   The 100-year-old silver trophy presented to Boston manager Jake Stahl after the 1912 World Series sold for $239,000 on Thursday. The New Jersey memorabilia collector who sold the trophy commemorating the Boston Red Sox’s 1912 World Series victory last week says he’s shocked the club showed no interest in the piece.

FBI seeks Doug Allen’s help, a week after indicting him, to locate missing 1869 Cincinnati Red Stockings baseball card.   Doug Allen must think the feds are schizophrenic. Last week they indicted the sports memorabilia executive on 14 counts of mail and wire fraud. This week they asked him to help return a rare and valuable baseball card that had been stolen decades ago to the New York Public Library.

Jay Ross auctions off Super Bowl ring for $53,775.   The ring, which Ross earned when he was a member of the Packers practice squad, was sold for $45,000 with an additional $8,775 buyer's premium added to the amount.

After Indictment on Fraud Charges, Sports Memorabilia King Bill Mastro Pleads Not Guilty.   Mastro dropped out of the hobby in 2009, after he shut down Mastro Auctions, which once generated as much as $50 million a year in sales. He sold his legendary memorabilia collection in 2010.

Kuehne Baseball Shaving Mug Could Whip Up $8,000.   The striking mug features an image of a player sliding into home plate alongside the catcher, with a full baseball diamond and players in the distance. Between 1883 and 1892, Kuehne played infield positions for teams in Pittsburgh, St. Louis and Cincinnati; and he was featured on 11 Old Judge Tobacco cards.

Collecting 2012 Topps Allen & Ginter.   Although the set is no longer the sensation it was when first released in 2006, it has remained popular while staying true to its roots. The set still features the best baseball players of today, historically great players like Roberto Clemente and Jackie Robinson, and other famous people (such as Erin Andrews). Each box still contains three relics or autographed cards, and the checklists for both are large and feature almost every team.

PSA Launches Resource For Game-Used Collectors.   PSA is helping bring order to the chaos of game-used baseball bat collecting with a new resource for collectors based on information collected when the company has authenticated and graded pieces from the past. The company has created a website called PSAProBatFacts.com, which is a reference resource showing models and types of bats used by past players. In its initial debut, there are specs and images for bats from 73 members of the Hall of Fame and 34 other notable players who are often collected.

Move Over Mantle: Balloon Boy Trading Card Now Available.   Back in July of 2011 a Colorado man had paid $2,500 for the infamous balloon from the Balloon Boy hoax at auction. That investment may now bear fruit, snippets of the balloon are included in the 2012 Allen & Ginter Baseball card series.

Topps Going “Mini” in 2012, Available Aug. 1.   Topps announced that it’s bringing back mini cards in a very limited way for 2012. Available exclusively through ShopTopps.com, the 2012 Baseball Mini cards will launch on Aug. 1 and priced at $50 per box. The base set consists of 661 cards from Series 1 and 2.

Bill Mastro and two partners indicted on fraud charges stemming from massive sports memorabilia scam, including altering famous Honus Wagner card.   The T206 Wagner card is the world's most expensive baseball trading card and has fetched millions of dollars in a series of high-profile purchases, including a $451,000 sale in 1991 to NHL great Wayne Gretzky and former Los Angeles Kings owner Bruce McNall.

Panini Extends Pro Football Hall of Fame Agreement.   As part of the agreement, Panini America will maintain exclusive rights to use Pro Football Hall of Fame marks and logos on its trading cards and collectible stickers, and will continue to produce special autographed trading cards honoring members of each new class of enshrinees.

Topps Football Factory Set Includes Exclusives.   All 440 base cards from the line will be available the first week of October in a complete factory set, but there is one difference. In the hobby-only edition, collectors will get one five-card pack of numbered orange parallels.

LeBron James’ Game-Worn Sneakers by Upper Deck.   During James’ first season with the Heat, he partnered up with Upper Deck to make some of his game-worn kicks available to the public. Signed by James along with an inscription about the game, Upper Deck sold the shoes through their online store and promptly sold most of them. While a majority of the shoes featured here are exclusive Nike LeBron 8 player exclusives, there are a few surprises that are sure to raise some eyebrows.

1912 Red Sox World Series trophy to be auctioned.   The trophy's current owner, Robert Fraser, an avid Red Sox fan, says he decided to sell it after being contacted by several companies that wanted to auction it off for the 100th anniversary of the team's World Series win and the opening of Fenway Park. Fraser, a real estate broker from Westwood, N.J., said he and his wife paid $74,000 when they bought it from a sports memorabilia dealer in 2007.
