Don Newcombe's Dodgers jersey starts at $15,000 with Julien's Auctions
The Rawlings brand gamer was worn by Newcombe in 1957, the season before the Dodgers moved to LA. With Newcombe one of the most important early African-American players, it is estimated at $30,000-40,000.

He was the only player to have won the Rookie of the Year, Most Valuable Player and CY Young awards in his career, until 2011, when Detroit Tigers' Justin Verlander joined him.

One Jets fan pays big bucks for Mark Sanchez's 'Butt Fumble' jersey
Jake Hendrickson was on the NFL auctions website last week, scouring the items put up for bid on the New York Jets portal. He stumbled across a game-worn jersey for former Jets quarterback Sanchez, dated as worn on Nov. 22, 2012. He stared at it for a minute, blinked twice, and then quickly consulted the Jets schedule from that year. Yes, it was the same No. 6 jersey that Sanchez wore during the infamous "Butt Fumble" game.

Hendrickson didn’t drop the ball on his bid, winning the jersey. The cost? $820.

Carmelo Anthony’s Olympic bronze medal up for auction
Only once has the U.S. men’s basketball team not won a gold medal since professionals entered the Olympics. Here’s your chance to own a piece of that history.

The Red Sox slugger spent his most recent Saturday as a guest at a massive memorabilia show in Marlborough, Mass. Many of his teammates joined Ortiz, along with Joe Montana, Ray Bourque and others, as the object of fans adoration. Also known as “Red Sox Locker Room,” the work portrays a spring training scene involving Red Sox players Billy Goodman, Frank Sullivan, Jackie Jensen, Sammy White and Ted Williams as they regard the arrival of an eager, wiry teenage prospect. Topps announced it will include fan-generated photos on cards in 2015 Topps Opening Day via an Instagram-based contest called Topps Live.

Babe Ruth's watch fetches more than $650,000 at auction
SCP Auctions said the watch was from the 25th anniversary celebration in 1948 of the opening of Yankee Stadium. The stadium came to be dubbed ''The House That Ruth Built'' because of the number of fans the baseball legend drew to the venue.

Other top sales include a 1965 Sandy Koufax-autographed L.A. Dodgers home jersey worn in a game that fetched $268,664. The auction house says Satchel Paige's 1971 National Baseball Hall of Fame induction ring set a world record for a baseball-related ring, selling for $259,642.

Heritage Auctions of Dallas said it fetched $262,900 on Friday in an online-only sale. The company said it was the second “Miracle on Ice” gold medal to reach the block, the first being Mark Wells’, which commanded $310,700 in 2010.

Baseball art created by LeRoy Neiman has sold for nearly $500,000 at auction
The 129 art-decorated baseballs were made for Neiman's friend Charlie McCabe, a bank marketing executive. Most were done in colored marker and captured some of baseball's greatest players.

Heritage Auctions says the top-selling ball depicted artwork of Marilyn Monroe and was signed by Joe DiMaggio, Monroe's second husband. It sold for $95,600.

Presenting what it calls “the most carefully curated subject list in trading card history” and the “most-premium Topps product of all time,” Topps released on Friday the basic information and first looks at its latest high-end baseball card brand.

It’s 2014 Topps Dynasty, and it will arrive on Nov. 19 with every card limited to 10 or fewer copies, every card encased and with every card featuring an autograph. There will be one card per box and only five boxes per case with a factory (hobby direct) cost of more than $200 per box.

Tommy John selling autographed MRIs of rebuilt elbow for charity
The images are signed by John and the late Dr. Frank Jobe, who changed sports history and performed the first ever Tommy John surgery 40 years ago. There were 100 prints made and 99 are for sale at $1,295 each. The remaining print was donated to the Dodgers, who renamed their training facility after Jobe.

John underwent his revolutionary procedure in 1974 at age 31 and won more games after the surgery (164) than he did before (124). Thousands of players have since undergone Tommy John surgery.

Among the highlights were a 2010 San Francisco Giants World Series ring selling for $42,480, Kobe Bryant’s Olympic sneakers autographed by all of his teammates selling for $38,561 and a one-of-a-kind Aston Martin Vanquish sports car produced for the 50th anniversary of the Basketball Hall of Fame and autographed by 50 NBA greats, which sold for a whopping $138,533.

Rare Russell Wilson Rangers card a hot seller
The odds of getting a Russell Wilson Texas Rangers baseball card are about the same as Wilson actually ever playing for the Rangers.

That hasn't stopped collectors from trying to snap up a Rangers' version of Wilson, which went on sale this week. The super-short printed card is already a hot seller on eBay. One of them just sold for $189.

Peter Nash ordered to pay $261,000 in legal fees to sports memorabilia auction house
Nash had consigned numerous items to Robert Lifson’s auction house before their relationship turned sour almost a decade ago, when Lifson claimed Nash had failed to pay back almost $1 million he had borrowed from REA.

Lifson was preparing to sell memorabilia that Nash had put up as collateral for the loan when Nash sued him in 2007, claiming he did not have 100% ownership in one of the items, the first-pitch ball used to inaugurate the 1912 season at Fenway Park. Nash claimed that he had sold a 1% ownership stake in the ball after he had given it to Lifson and that the sale needed to be halted.

eBay Restructures Fees to Revive Ailing Auctions
The day after eBay revealed that auctions were down 9%, the company announced fee changes designed to revive them. eBay is basically forcing lower-volume sellers in certain popular categories such as collectibles to list in the auction format.

1956 Olympic Games torch auctions for $412,500
Just five Stockholm torches exist. The one sold has become the second most valuable Olympic torch ever auctioned, behind the $490,000 achieved by a 1952 Helsinki Games example in 2011, more than doubling its $175,000 estimate in the process.

Christy Mathewson Family Heirloom Sterling Silver Set At Auction
The sterling silver tea and coffee service is one of only a few surviving baseball memorabilia in the family. The service tray is engraved ”Presented to Christy ‘Matthewson’ by his New York Friends, May 12th 1917? and is in the “Plymouth” pattern by Reed and Barton. On that day the Cincinnati Reds played his previous team, the New York Giants.

George Wright Red Stockings Cigars advert makes $189,600
It's the only specimen known to have survived to the present day and has formed the centrepiece of a range of prestigious advertising collections.

Wright (1847-1937) was considered one of the greatest players of his era, leading the Cincinatti Red Stockings to six championship victories during his time at the club.

Iowa baseball museum struggles when namesake dies
The museum stayed solvent for well over a decade by having Feller convince fellow Hall of Famers like Whitey Ford and Yogi Berra to visit Van Meter for fundraising autograph sessions. But the signings have dried up since Feller died in December of 2010.
