1956 Olympic Games torch auctions for $412,500
Just five Stockholm torches exist. The one sold has become the second most valuable Olympic torch ever auctioned, behind the $490,000 achieved by a 1952 Helsinki Games example in 2011, more than doubling its $175,000 estimate in the process.

Christy Mathewson Family Heirloom Sterling Silver Set At Auction
The sterling silver tea and coffee service is one of only a few surviving baseball memorabilia in the family. The service tray is engraved ”Presented to Christy ‘Matthewson’ by his New York Friends, May 12th 1917? and is in the “Plymouth” pattern by Reed and Barton. On that day the Cincinnati Reds played his previous team, the New York Giants.

Duke freshman Jabari Parker declared for the NBA Draft on Thursday, adding to an already stacked draft class for 2014.

Opening Day hit: U.S. Mint sells out of gold coins to benefit Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown
After a surge of unprecedented interest, the U.S. Mint has sold out of the $5 gold baseball coins that went on sale at noon Thursday as part of the 2014 Baseball Hall of Fame Commemorative Coin program.

All 50,000 of the gold coins issued for the program were sold by Monday afternoon, said U.S. Mint spokesman Michael White. The proof gold coins were listed at $424.75 per coin earlier in the day.
