New York City's Met museum shows off football cards
The museum is presenting an exhibition celebrating football's history through the ages with vintage trading cards. It opens Jan. 24 and runs through Feb. 10.

The 150 cards, beginning with a series from 1894, are part of approximately 600 football cards from the museum's vast collection of 300,000 trading cards donated to the Met by the late card collector and cataloger Jefferson Burdick. All predate the founding of a national football league in 1920 and the first Super Bowl in 1967.

More Moran memorabilia coming to auction

Among the items up for auction is a rare bronze plaque of Moran's face -- an identical bust to the one on the Pat Moran Memorial in West Fitchburg, and a game-used catcher's mitt from Moran's playing days, a 1923 press pin for the World Series, and the 1915 World Series Loving Cup -- presented to Moran, the manager of the W.S.-bound Philadelphia Phillies.

Asking price for Jackie Robinson rookie of the year award cut 95%
Lelands announced that Robinson's rookie of the year award trophy is available for bidding. Robinson won the first such award for his historic 1947 season with the Brooklyn Dodgers; the award was renamed in his honor in 1987.

The award is accompanied by a letter of authentication from Robinson's widow, Rachel. Catherine Mathis, a spokesman for Lelands, said the company first sold the award on Rachel Robinson's behalf about 20 years ago and that the buyer then is the seller now.
