Discovery Chanel's "All-Star Dealers" Debut Brings Poor Reviews.   “All-Star Dealers,” the Discovery Channel reality show about Long Island’s Grey Flannel Auctions, debuted this week to a chilly reception. The show, which stars longtime dealer Richie Russek, seems to be going over about as well as an FBI raid at a memorabilia convention.

Panini America Inks Legend Gordie Howe to a Multi-Year Trading Card Agreement.   The new pact means Panini America will be able to include autograph and memorabilia trading cards of Howe in its officially licensed hockey products for the first time. May I have my autograph?   Paul Schmelzer has an unusual way of collecting autographs from the famous -- he asks them to sign his name instead of theirs. Schmelzer's no egomaniac. He just thought it might be an interesting project, after observing an 8-year-old boy with Asperger's ask jazz musician Ben Sidran for his autograph. When Sidran complied, the boy said, "Not your name. Mine!"

A Baseball Scorecard From Way Back.   What David Hunt says: Early 1900s professional baseball programs of any type are fairly valuable, with the Philadelphia Athletics ranking among the most desirable. Companies Create Cards For NFLPA Collegiate Bowl Participants.   Some of the top college football players competed in the NFLPA Bowl on Saturday night. While the players are working toward the NFL Draft and received national exposure, they also received a memento to take home with them. The players got their first licensed trading card.

Ken Morrow’s game-worn Team USA ‘Miracle on Ice’ hockey jersey up for auction.   Former New York Islanders defenseman Ken Morrow has teamed up with Quebec-based auction house Classic Auctions to put up for bid the jersey he wore during the Team USA's historic defeat of the Soviet Union during the Lake Placid Games.

Collector sues U.S. government over loss of valuable signed baseball cards.   The package was sent to Detroit, but wound up at a postal facility in Atlanta, where it sat for about 18 months. Eventually, it was forwarded to Detroit and inventoried by a postal inspector but most of the contents went missing.

A Q&A About the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Baseball Card Collection.   This week, an exhibition titled "Breaking the Color Barrier in Major League Baseball" opened at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. On display until June 17, the exhibit includes 60 baseball cards of players who moved from the Negro Leagues to the Major Leagues. The museum has an amazing collection of baseball cards including a Honus Wagner T206 card, and is planning a digital archive.

Bank foreclosing on O.J. Simpson’s Florida house.   Like tens of thousands of other Florida homeowners, imprisoned former football star O.J. Simpson is in danger of losing his house to foreclosure. The 64-year-old former football star and actor is serving a nine-to-33-year prison sentence stemming from a 2007 armed confrontation with sports memorabilia dealers in a Las Vegas casino hotel room. Simpson was convicted of kidnapping, armed robbery and other charges. He is appealing the conviction.

A knockout exhibition to honour legend Ali.   Boxing legend Muhammad Ali will be honoured by a unique exhibition being held at a Wellingborough gallery (UK). It is believed to be the only display of both Ali artwork and memorabilia being held to coincide with the sporting legend’s 70th birthday.

PSA/DNA's Steve Grad Uses Technology to Help Expose a Baseball Autograph Forgery.   Steve Grad, autograph expert for PSA/DNA, uses different types of high-tech tools to help expose a Jesse Burkett autograph forgery. Burkett single-signed baseballs are one of the more valuable autographed items in the hobby, giving unscrupulous individuals the incentive to forge his desirable signature. In this case, Grad shows the viewers one technique used to alter baseballs, in hopes of tricking an unsuspecting buyer - re-painting. Hank Aaron Museum offers free admission on MLK Day.   The Aaron Childhood Home and Museum, which features Aaron memorabilia as well as educational information concerning Aaron's childhood and life in Mobile and the South in the 1940s and 1950s, will welcome all visitors without charge throughout the day. The museum is actually Aaron's childhood home, built by his father Herbert and moved to Hank Aaron Stadium where it was renovated and rebuilt as a museum.

Henrik Lundqvist raises $35,000 for charity by selling Rangers Winter Classic mask.   Lundqvist played a huge part in the New York Rangers' 2012 NHL Winter Classic victory at Citizen's Bank Park in Philadelphia. Now he has played another key role for Garden of Dreams, a non-profit charity that has helped "thousands of special children and their families" — by selling the mask he wore during the outdoor game.

Autographed World Series cap found on highway to be auctioned for charity.   Organizers of the annual Joyce Thome benefit for the Children's Hospital of Illinois have collected many impressive donations for the live and silent auctions over the years, but few have the back story of the baseball cap donated by Joe Couri of Brimfield. It's a 2011 World Series championship baseball cap apparently autographed by St. Louis Cardinals World Series MVP David Freese, All-Star catcher Yadier Molina, relief pitcher Jason Motte, a few more players, and Al Hrabosky, a former Cardinal and current Cards color commentator known as the "Mad Hungarian."

Sign of the Times: Topps Announces Tebow Autos in Upcoming Products.   All the Tim Tebow hype might go on hiatus after this weekend, but right now you can’t go five seconds online or on sports talk radio without hearing about the Denver Broncos quarterback. That said, Topps has announced the insertion of Tebow autographs in the upcoming Supreme Football and Precision Football.

Topps Ends ETopps.   After a decade in existence, the eTopps program will be ending. Collectors will still have access to their cards and will be able to continue to trade and sell, but Topps announced in a letter on the eTopps website it will no longer offer new cards — and that’s in any sport. There has been recent unrest over eTopps with the rise in shipping prices. Now comes the cancellation of the program.

Topps Brings New Addtions to 2012 Allen and Ginter.   For twenty plus years, Ken Griffey Jr was the face of Upper Deck, and for that matter, the face of the game. At 90, Alvin Dark still a Giant at heart.   He was the Giants' shortstop and captain when Willie Mays made his miracle catch. He began the rally that culminated with the Shot Heard 'Round the World. He managed the Giants' first World Series team in San Francisco. He piloted the A's to the 1974 World Series title.

Ebay and PayPal dispute ends in violin destruction.   There's a new paypal policy - if there’s a dispute over whether an item is authentic, PayPal may require the buyer to destroy the item and provide evidence of its destruction. Craigslist Scammer got away with $2,200.   They met at a local Ihop and the baseball cards were all purchased for $2,200 cash. The only problem: The vintage Mantle cards were fake.

CNBC: Golf memorabilia as an investment.   The cable business network CNBC has a feature on its website that it calls "Alternative Investing." Antique Dealer Who Sold Fake Sports Memorabilia Surrenders Auctioneer License After Criminal Conviction.   Hooper was convicted of forgery, embezzlement and other offenses related to the sale of fake sports memorabilia in October 2010 and was sentenced to 10 to 23 months in county prison and ordered to pay a $129,200 fine.

Hobby Pioneer Goodie Goldfaden dies at 97.   It is impossible to summarize the life and work of Goodie Goldfaden in a few pages. He was in the business of selling publications, cards and memorabilia from every sport since 1925, when he and his brother Jack sold programs and pennants outside Cleveland’s League Park.

Upper Deck Salutes Collectors Giving Back to Kids.   Kids ‘N’ Cards is a new charity that was started by Michael Hodges dedicated to delivering cards to kids in the St. Louis, Missouri area. First Look: 2012 Topps Series 2 (Updated)   Topps released the first preview images and information for its second series of its 2012 Topps flagship baseball card set on Wednesday, and it’s largely a continuation of the gold-themed collecting odyssey that begins on Feb. 1. Each 36-pack hobby box will include one autograph or Relic card, while each 10-pack HTA jumbo box will include one autograph and two Relics inside when it arrives on June 6.

Topps to release exclusive Team USA cards for the 2012 London Olympics.   Topps announced today an exclusive agreement with the U.S. Olympic Committee to produce Team USA trading cards for the 2012 London Olympics. The set will include many of the top athletes set to play in the games, including Hope Solo, Shawn Johnson, Misty-May Treanor, Tyson Gay and Michael Phelps.
